I wish it was easy enough to just write about all that’s happened over the last few weeks. I could only record recent events by hand on my notebook since it’s within reach and didn’t require me to log in, give it a title, upload a featured image, etc.
But silence doesn’t have to last forever, and I think today’s a good time to get back up and start turning the cogs on this blog again. Let me start with this:
My company was acquired and I’ll be terminated in April 30th. And because a flurry of red flags went up when the new company introduced themselves, I’ve decided not to re-apply at the new company.
This crack in my career pretty much threw me and my side-projects overboard:
- I stopped blogging over at pagerie.co
- Pagerie sales stopped coming in
- I stopped posting on pagerie’s Facebook and Instagram feeds
Then a whole bunch of other crazy things happened:
- A competitor of my company invited me to apply for an open role, but eventually rejected me because of my “lack of technical know-how.” How funny is that? They decided to continue looking for someone else who they felt benefited the company more. What really happened? My 6-year old laptop bogged down while I was live demoing for them, but I guess they didn’t feel I deserved a second chance. Bitterness aside ?
- Shipping rates with my chosen courier skyrocketed, so I was forced to move my entire pagerie shop to a shared platform called Shopee. You can check it out here.
- I applied for two other jobs at two other SaaS companies. This morning, I got rejected by one ‘coz they weren’t looking for someone with my qualifications (or the lack of it).
- If the other company chooses to reject me too, I’m taking a hiatus for the rest of 2018.
Diwa Daily turned 1 last Saturday. It’s the second blog after a series of failed blogs that lasted for a full year since The Freelance Pinoy. ?
It’s cause for celebration, but I couldn’t find the heart and soul to write about what has happened to me yet. I was in such a slump, logging in to my websites felt like a lot of emotional effort to do.
But hey, it’s sunrise as of this writing, and I think I’m feeling better about what I’m going through.
After 9 long years of working, the thought of regaining the freedom to do what I had long set aside for responsibilities feels exhilarating.
Exciting.
Frightening.
My heart pounds at the thought of sitting in my reading chair all morning while the kids are in school, blazing through my super old TBR list. It sings at the possibility of spending my afternoons finishing my début poetry collection, Animalia, and the Folk World series.
I think it’s still too early to be talking about what my plans are moving forward, so I’m injecting changes to the blog bit by bit as I go along. Posts, for now, will be about stuff I actually shared, published, and done so that I can hold myself accountable to the things I set out to do. These may include more job applications, rejections, failed attempts at cooking and feeding my children, and more.
Should be fun, right?
Once things are back to normal, I’m ? Diwa Daily will rise again, and this time with a whole new direction ahead of her.
